In Dupuytren's disease, nodules and cords form in the palms and fingers. They are usually painless but can pull the fingers into flexion.

The fingers can usually still bend normally, while extension becomes increasingly difficult.

The disease is not cured by treatment or surgery. However, we can restore mobility and preserve it as well as possible. In a significant group of patients, the condition is hereditary.

How does the treatment proceed?

In certain cases, collagenase injections may be useful.

There are several surgical methods to remove contractures. Surgery does not cure the disease and is therefore a symptomatic treatment.

The goal of surgery is to make the fingers mobile again and to preserve that mobility.

From consultation to recovery

  1. Consultation

    We examine the palm and fingers and discuss whether injections or surgery are indicated.

  2. The procedure

    The operation takes approximately 1 hour under regional anesthesia.

  3. Dressing

    After surgery, the hand remains in a dressing until the follow-up visit.

  4. Follow-up after 14 days

    After about 14 days, the sutures are removed. An extension splint is usually fitted.

  5. Splint

    You wear the extension splint for 4 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Does surgery cure Dupuytren's disease?

No. Surgery does not cure the disease. The goal is to restore and preserve finger mobility.

Should nodules without symptoms be removed?

No. Removing nodules that cause no problems does not change the further course of the disease.

How long do I wear a splint?

An extension splint is usually fitted that you wear for 4 weeks.
