The procedure is performed under brief general anesthesia, sedation, or local anesthesia (Preservé), in highly sterile conditions and using the latest techniques. Before the procedure begins, Dr. Muyldermans marks important reference points.
With implants, placement is through a small incision in the fold beneath the breast. Dr. Muyldermans works exclusively with top-quality implants. Sutures are fully subcutaneous and self-dissolving. Any lipofilling is performed through very small separate entry points.

Breast augmentation takes about 1 hour under general anesthesia, sedation, or local anesthesia.
You may go home on the day of the procedure. Paracetamol is usually sufficient for any discomfort during the first 2 days. A support dressing stays in place until the first follow-up appointment within the week after surgery. After that, you wear a support bra or sports bra for about six weeks.
Avoid heavy physical exertion for the first 6 weeks. You can return to work after a few days. Scars need about a year to settle; in the early phase, we advise local pressure with dressings and possibly silicone therapy.
An implant does not remain in place for life. When replacement is needed varies greatly and depends on your body's biological response and scar tissue formation in the capsule around the implant.
Breast augmentation does not rule out breastfeeding or mammography. The procedure may affect milk production in some patients, depending among other things on incision technique and implant position. Always tell the mammography team in advance that you have breast implants; extra images are often needed to assess breast tissue properly. Discuss any future pregnancy plans or breastfeeding questions during the consultation.
